Which Websites Should You Advertise Your Business On?
Do you have a business you want to advertised on the web? Which websites should you advertise on? How can you determine what's a fair price for advertising?
You could let someone else take care of those details for you, like TextLinkAds. They will find the right sites for you to buy links ads on by matching up your keywords with their keywords.
Or you could handle it yourself by handpicking the sites you where you want your ads.
Unfortunately, there isn't ONE organization you can trust to tell you the honest answer to those questions. Rather, you have to take a broad look at the many ranking systems (websites that rank other websites by traffic, content, links, discussion, and more). You have to get down and dirty and do you own research.
What to consider when choosing a website to advertise on:
1. Google Rank - A website's Google Rank is updated every three months.
2. Alexa Rank
3. Big Boards Rank if it's a web forum
3. Technorati Rank if it's a blog
4. Ask to see their traffic data. The worst they can do is say no.
5. Is the website in your niche? Does it serve your customers?
6. Are their rates reasonable?
7. Location, location, location. Where will they put your ad?
8. Timing. How long will your ad run? Will it be shown during high traffic times?
9. Watch the website yourself for a while. Visit it regularly and try to get a feel for it. Is it a good fit for your business? Did you overlook something on your first visit?
10. Check the traffic data again a month later and then another month later. Things change and the website could be getting more or less popular. What does that mean for you?
If you're still not sure which websites to advertise on, consider starting your own website to promote your business. There are lots of cheap and easy options, for example the Website Tonight at OtisWorks. There's no substitute for personal experience.
