How To Brand Your Blog & Get Free Publicity
Let's say you have a Blogger blog and the address is something like http://meerkatmusings.blogspot.com wouldn't it be great if you could keep your Blogger blog just like it is but have the address be http://www.meerkatmusings.com?
You can. You can buy your own domain name (your own dot com address) at otisworks.com and you can point it to your Blogger blog.
Why should you care about having your own domain name?
Because it will give you more flexibility and power in the long run, which is what blogging is all about. You can "brand" your domain name without investing in hosting or SEO companies. If later on you decide you want to host your blog yourself or sell your blog you can do that without losing your traffic and your audience. Your audience knows your domain name. They don't care who hosts your blog.
Why should you blog with Blogger?
Because it will give you free publicity. Google indexes Blogger blogs extremely well without making you learn how to code or market.
For example, I did this with a blog a short while back: Ed Miller Fan. This blog can sit around on Blogger for as long as they’ll have it. It costs me less than $10 a year for the domain name. If later on I want to expand it or I want to sell it, I have those options. But for now it's an easy "turn-key" website that's branding the "Ed Miller Fan" name and making me a little money on the side.
It’s a very small investment in a big idea.
