Here's How to Set Up Your Own Dot Com with a Free Blogger Blog Hosting

Here's how to set up your own domain name with a blogspot blog. These are the steps to use to set up a simple Blogger blog as the hosting for your entire web site with your own dot com web address.

Step One
You've already bought your domain name (your own dot com, such as catblog.com or stripedsox.com) at OtisWorks.com and now you want to point it to your Blogger blog (at blogspot.com). The first thing to do is login to your account and go to "manage domains."

Step Two
Find the domain name you want to associate with your Blogger blog. Click on the domain name.

Step Three
The next screen has opened up. Now click on "Total DNS Control" and another new screen should display.

Step Four
Click on "Add New CNAME Record" from the bottom right button.

Step Five
In the CNAME admin panel type "www" in the top box and the blogspot sever address in the bottom box, which is "ghs.google.com" then choose "OK." (If you wish to make only part of your website a blogspot blog, associate a subdomain name instead of "www". For example, our OtisWorks blog is at blog.otisworks.com and the rest of the website is at www.otisworks.com.)

Step Six
Login to your Blogger account. Go to the "Settings" tab and then choose "Publishing." Click on "Custom Domain."

Step Seven
Type in your new domain name (your own dot com) into the custom domain name field including the "www."

Step Eight
Click "Save Settings" and you're done! Congratulations, you now have your very own dot com blog!
